Our driving events welcome drivers of all skill levels with specific driving sessions catering needs of both new or experienced drivers. Separate run groups are based on driver skills and car capabilities. Drivers lacking High Performance (HP) driving skills are given classroom training on the basics of HP driving, safety and track etiquette as well as in car driving instruction, all in an open and low pressure environment.

Safety, fun and learning better driving skills are the focus. Whether you eventually want to race cars, or just improve your driving skills for safer street driving in unexpected situations, or instill proper car handling techniques for the drivers in your family, this is a great and cost effective starting point.

Drivers with prior High Performance Driver Education (HDPE) training can run solo (or have an instructor if they desire) in the appropriate run group for their car and skill. Open, safe track time with the opportunity of in car instruction is the focus of these run groups.

Experienced HP drivers can run solo (or have an instructor if they desire) and can drive in the run group of their choice other than the novice run group. Open safe track time and timed lap events with placed finishers are the focus of these run groups.

Whatever driver status you fit into, we have a place for you to enjoy a safe and positive experience on a closed course race track, driving as fast as you and your car choose to safely lap the circuit. No speed limits, just good, safe and respectful driving are all that is expected, and enforced.

Vehicle requirements:

  • All vehicles that participate in these events are inspected for safety before being allowed on track. Street legal cars require a minimum of factory installed seat belts, tires and brakes in good working order. Faster off-road only cars require a minimum of 5 point seat belts and the general safety requirements for road race cars.
  • All drivers must have an SA2000 or M2000 or newer helmet. Helmets are available at no charge with prior notice to TC.

Our goal is for new drivers to have a fun, comfortable learning experience into the world of High Performance driving, and experienced drivers to have a fun and safe and unhurried opportunity to tune your car and hone your driving skills.

Race tracks that TC offers for HPDE, drivers training, track day and timed events:

  • Portland International Raceway (PIR), Portland, Oregon.

A 1.97 or 1.92 mile closed circuit that only runs clockwise and has 12 to 9 corners depending on whether the chicane (turns 1,2 and 3) are open or closed for the particular event. Most often the chicane is open.

The course is 1.97 miles per lap with 12 corners. Top speeds achieved on the front straight from turn 12 to turn 1 (entry of the chicane) and the end of the back “straight”, turn 10 are similar. On days when the chicane is closed the highest speeds are attained at the end of the full straight, turn 4. PIR is very, but not completely flat in elevation change. It has a very wide and extremely well paved tarmac.

A great track to start your HP driving experience. One of the best in the NW for sure. Fun, fairly safe, local to many and relatively easy to learn basic driving line and HP driving skills on. For more experienced drivers this is a very fast track, especially with the chicane closed. It lives up to its reputation as a favorite of the pro driven, very fast race cars.
